More Info
Irena Sendler was a member of the Polish Resistance in Warsaw during WWII. In her late twenties when Germany invaded Poland, she became the mastermind spy in charge of child rescue operations. Under Irena’s direction and with the help of hundreds of collaborators, her organization rescued 2,500 Jewish children living in the Warsaw ghetto from certain death. In order to perform her duties, Irena had to be calculating and take risks. At times there were great sums of money at her apartment. She also had the names of the children she rescued and their contact information written in secret code. IF THEY COME TONIGHT features the night of October 20, 1943 when the apartment Irena shared with her mother was raided by the Gestapo. Following the raid, Irena was arrested and sent to Pawiak prison in Warsaw Poland.see less
